Becoming a CCX-Approved Verifier

CCX employs independent verification throughout its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction and trading system to support transparency, rigor and integrity, and to provide Members with standardized procedures for managing GHGs. Once a project is approved as eligible under CCX rules, a project owner or aggregator must obtain independent verification from a CCX-Approved Verifier. This verification applies to all offset projects and forest carbon stocks. Verifiers use information provided by the project owner or aggregator, combined with site visits, to accurately assess a project’s adherence to CCX project methodologies and to determine the annual GHG mitigation attributable to the project. All offset projects are subject to initial on-site inspection, as well as annual desk verification and periodic site inspection, for the duration of the project’s enrollment in CCX. Verification reports are reviewed by CCX staff as well as the CCX regulatory services provider, FINRA, for completeness and adherence to CCX requirements.

Becoming a CCX-Approved Verifier

Before applying to be a CCX-Approved Verifier, you are advised to obtain a copy of the CCX protocol for the project type(s) your organization would like to verify. Project protocols are available here. This will enable you to check that your organization is able to comply with the guidelines and to educate your organization on CCX requirements for project verification. If your organization has been approved as a verifier by the California Climate Action Registry, or is a CDM Designated Operational Entity, you may submit a copy of your application to those programs in place of the corresponding items listed within the CCX application form. In addition to submitting the CCX application, each prospective verifier is required to submit a general conflict of interest statement. The statement outlines any actual or potential conflicts of interest that may be created if your organization becomes a CCX-Approved Verifier. Further, before performing any verification work for CCX Members or Offset Providers, you will also be required to submit a project-specific conflict of interest statement. Each prospective verifier will be notified of their approval or non-approval, within one calendar month of submission.
